Dear Parishioners,

It is with profound sadness that we announce that both parents of our Associate Pastor Ken Lao — Lusing Lao King and Amado King — passed away from COVID-19 in the Philippines earlier this week.

If you would like to leave a note or prayer of condolence for Father Ken and his family, you may do so at the website for his father’s obituary (https://everloved.com/life-of/amado-king/) and the website for his mother’s obituary (https://everloved.com/life-of/lusing-lao-king/).

Live streaming of the funeral service for Fr. Ken’s parents will be available for the public through St. Mary’s Ottawa YouTube Channel (https://youtu.be/6Ld01THsWHc) on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 9:00 p.m. EDT (Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. Manila Time).

O sweet mother Mary, who knew the sadness of mourning those your heart loved most, Jesus your Son, and Joseph your devoted spouse, pray for Father Ken and his family in their time of loss. Amen.

Important: Archbishop Damphousse’s April 25 Pandemic Message

St. Mary’s Parish Pastoral Council encourages all parishioners to read our Archbishop’s April 25 letter about continuing to respect COVID-19 restrictions, and to join in his invitation for us to be bearers of hope during this pandemic.

“I believe that we must work together as a Church with our government leaders to fight this pandemic. Even if we don’t like the restrictions, I believe it is essential that we take the necessary steps to save the lives of those in our families, parishes and communities.”

Let Us Implore the Protection of Mary

Pope Francis has asked the entire Church to offer up the Daily Rosary in this month of May dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary for an end to the pandemic. Throughout the month, 30 shrines worldwide have been designed to help us pray, saying the Rosary in their language, with intentions related to the pandemic. On May 23 the Rosary will be recited at Notre Dame du Cap in Trois-Rivières

‘I therefore invite the parishes, movements and Catholic associations of our diocese to encourage their faithful to a Marian devotion during the month of May.’ -Archbishop Damphousse:
