Diocesan Synod

Pope Francis has initiated a synodal journey of the whole People of God, beginning in each local Church and culminating in the Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome, in October 2023. This synod is about the very nature of the Church, the specific way of living and operating as a Church together. What this really means is that we are going to create opportunities for gathering and listening to one another and to what the Holy Spirit may be saying to us about our Church at this time. We are hopeful that this process of listening and discerning also contributes to the sense of communion, renewal, and missionary zeal. Further info: https://en.archoc.ca/synod-2021-2023.

Religious discrimination and persecution

January Pope Video   As much as 67% of the world’s population lives in countries where the right to religious freedom is denied. “How can we allow that in this society, which is so civilized, there are people who are persecuted simply because they publicly profess their faith?” If we allow what makes us different to separate us, we will lose sight of something fundamental: “As human beings, we have so many things in common that we can live alongside each other, welcoming our differences with the joy of being brothers and sisters.” Let us follow the advice the Pope gives us in his January prayer intention: “Let us choose the path of fraternity.”   https://youtu.be/_LoDEAQvwyM

World Day for Consecrated Life – February 2nd, 2022

Due to the continuing concern with the transmission of the omicron variant of the Covid virus, Archbishop Marcel will tape Mass for the World Day for Consecrated Life to be released in time for viewing on this special day. He will make a link available on the archdiocesan website (www.archoc.ca) so people in religious and consecrated life can celebrate this important day in the life of the Church and in our Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall on the day itself instead of celebrating it on Saturday, February 05th . Please remember the religious and consecrated in our archdiocese who have given their lives to God in service in a particular way. We are indebted to their ministry, their witness and their commitment to serve the Lord with all of their lives. May God reward them for their witness and ministry!

Happy Feast of St. John Bosco, the Friend of Youth

On January 31, the Church celebrates the feast of St. John Bosco, the co-founder of the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. For this occasion, the four Salesian Sisters of Cornwall invite you to get to know Don Bosco better by watching an excellent movie available on YouTube in the comfort of your home as a family. Don Bosco: Mission to Love (part 1) https://youtu.be/KsnICd9E8dw. Intensify your daily prayers for all the young people so that they may engage in a loving and deeper relationship with God, with their families and with the world! With the friendly and joyful approach of Don Bosco, we are very pleased to direct the Salesian Youth Center (Friday evenings), the Salesian Summer Camp in July in Cornwall. We also coordinate a program called Duc in Altum for young adults who wish to discern their future. Info on activities: 613 937-4956.
