Fred Wazen

I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, but I’ve called Ottawa home for the past 29 years. I moved to Canada to continue my studies in Computer Science, but I ended up studying electronics. I worked at Nortel and later at Abbott in the semiconductors field, building telecommunication and medical components.

With over 21 years of experience in production and management, I decided to shift my focus and contribution to St Mary’s and to provide my time to help the parish in all aspect of maintenance and technical renovations. I joined the team in summer of 2017 as Maintenance Facilitator.

I oversee the everyday maintenance of the parish buildings, including facility repair, snow and yard maintenance, indoor-outdoor renovations, and security tasks. I enjoy the fact that my work helps keep the parish clean, neat and tidy, which allows the pastoral team to focus on its spiritual and evangelical duties and allows parishioners to enjoy their peaceful sacred time.

Favourite saint

When in doubt about anything, I consult the Holy Righteous St. Joseph the Betrothed for guidance. When I’m without hope, I ask for help from Theotokos, the Mother of the incarnate Son of God.

Favourite Ottawa coffee moment

An early homemade espresso is a must to kick off my morning debut. And at midday, another cortado coffee to maintain the rest of my shift.
