Being born and raised in the Philippines gave me the opportunity to serve marginalized sectors of society in Asia as a youth leader and engage in missionary work in a poor rural area.
St. Mary’s became my home parish in 2009. It gives me so much joy and satisfaction to oversee the monthly Night of Worship and Ministry and watch God at work in our midst. My other ministry involvements include personal prayer as a co-leader, New Life Retreat and serving as a lay Eucharistic minister. Previous ministry involvement has included chairing the Communications Committee and helping with children’s liturgy – during the years when my now-adult child was growing up.
My formal education included a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communication from the University of the Philippines, Diliman where I also worked. Teaching at a Catholic university and working as a Pepsi-Cola Products communication specialist/editor occupied several of my early employment years.
Upon immigrating to Canada in the 90s, I managed Administration and Programmes at the University of British Columbia’s Institute of Asian Research. Eventually, I moved to Ontario and earned a Baccalaureate in Education from the University of Ottawa. Currently, I’m a teacher with the Ottawa Catholic School Board and the faith mentor at our school.
My experiences gained in the fields of education, communication, research, training and project management come in handy in my role as Vice-Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council as we undertake strategic planning and set various goals for the future of St. Mary’s.
Admittedly, our Blessed Mother Mary has captured my heart.
